Shopping: There is great shopping throughout Italy. For unique items, try Venice for its Murano glass and Sorrento for its intarsio inlaid woodwork. (Many Italians take a vacation in late August, so many restaurants and shops close; however, this could be the perfect time to avoid the summer crowds in major cities like Rome.) If you’re looking for smaller crowds and shorter attraction lines, travel during the winter, and take advantage of the local Christmas markets that pop up. Late spring and early autumn are the ideal times to travel on your dream Italian vacation, also offering smaller crowds, milder weather, and more sunshine.

Best season to travel to Italy

Italy is mostly hot and humid in the summer, colder and wetter in the winter, and more mild temperatures are found in the spring and fall. If you’re going on your holiday to Italy during the summer months, plan your day so you are inside museums, galleries, or churches during the day. Visit outdoor attractions early in the morning or in the evening. Or perhaps plan a trip to the coast where the ocean can cool you down (just expect lots of people have this same idea). If traveling in the winter, make sure you check attraction hours, as many have reduced hours and days.

Italian is the official language of Italy but because Italy receives so many tourists, you can find many people who speak English in the major cities and tourist destinations.
