2017 Tour Details2018 Tour Details »

This exciting vacation is a delightful introduction to the history and culture of England, Scotland, and Wales. You’ll see fascinating sights as you travel from London to Edinburgh and back to London staying overnight along the way in Leeds, Wrexham, and Cardiff. Plus, part of the charm of traveling through Britain is seeing the marvelous scenery, including the pastoral countryside. On this Britain tour, you’ll get the opportunity to witness some of its most scenic areas, including tranquil Northumberland National Park. With its wide-open spaces and landscapes of endless beauty, it is the UK’s least populated national park. Also drive through the serene Lake District, England’s largest and finest natural park, and stop for photos at Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake. Finally, drive through the Cotswolds with the rolling hills and picturesque villages.

History buffs will be delighted in seeing mysterious, prehistoric Stonehenge (just imagine how these stones got there!); Bath, famous for the Roman baths constructed around 70 AD and today one of the best preserved Roman remains in the world; Chester, one of Britain's best cities for archaeological and architectural treasures, including Roman remains and half-timbered buildings; Stratford-upon-Avon, home to William Shakespeare; and York, England's most complete medieval city with its cobbled streets and the magnificent York Minister. Roughly 2,000 year ago, Emperor Hadrian gave orders for construction of a wall along the coast—with its craggy bluffs and high ridges—to protect against raiding northern tribes. You’ll see a section of that wall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Edinburgh, admire the Crown Jewels at Edinburgh Castle.

From the beautiful scenery to the historical sights, this Britain tour—designed for value-minded travelers—is a great way to sample what Britain has to offer!

Stop for photos at Jedburgh, and then Melrose with its 12th-century abbey ruins and connections with Robert the Bruce. Afternoon arrival in Edinburgh. Tonight, why not join an optional Scottish evening with Highland dancers, bagpipers, and, of course, the Ceremony of the Haggis? (B)

Day 3

Edinburgh. A full day to enjoy the Scottish capital. Morning sightseeing with a Local Guide introduces you to the 200-year-old “New Town,” home to famous scientists, inventors, and novelists. In the “Old Town,” drive up the narrow Royal Mile to EDINBURGH CASTLE to admire Scotland’s Crown Jewels. Later, a unique optional experience: board the former Royal Yacht Britannia, which was once the perfect royal residence for glittering state visits and family holidays. Tour five decks and see how the Royal Family and crew of 240 lived and worked on board. Dinner rounds out this optional evening. For departure numbers August 5, August 12 & August 19 tickets are included for tonight’s performance of the world-renowned MILITARY TATTOO, a vast spectacle of massed Scottish pipe bands that takes place in an arena on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle. (B)

Day 4

Edinburgh–Gretna Green–Lake District, England–Chester–Wrexham, Wales. This morning travel south through the history-steeped Lowland Hills and a visit to Gretna Green, where the blacksmith used to wed runaway couples. Drive through beautiful scenery in the Lake District, considered to be the finest of England’s national parks, and take your photographs of picturesque Lake Windermere. In Chester, the historic county town on the Dee River, your walking tour includes the Roman remains, black and white half-timbered buildings, and the two-tiered arcades called the “Rows.” Overnight in Wrexham. (B,D)

Day 5

Wrexham–Stratford-upon-Avon, England–Broadway–Cardiff, Wales. Today travel back into England. Later, tour fascinating Stratford-upon-Avon, a living monument to William Shakespeare, before driving through the scenic Cotswold Hills with a stop for photos in picture-book Broadway. Tonight, why not join an evening of Welsh entertainment and dinner? (B)
